Paediatric rheumatology Heidelberg

Rheumatic diseases can also occur in children of all ages. Children are not “small adults”: their diagnosis and treatment call for specific expertise. Dr Lutz, a paediatrician, has specialised in paediatric rheumatology, which allows our team to treat patients of every age with inflammatory rheumatic diseases at the Centre for Rheumatology.

Dr Lutz specialises in the following conditions:

  • acute inflammatory joint diseases, including reactive, para- and post-infectious arthritis (e.g. transient synovitis of the hip, Lyme disease)
  • chronic inflammatory joint diseases, including all forms of juvenile idiopathic arthritis
  • rheumatic eye inflammation: uveitis, iridocyclitis – in cooperation with the Heidelberg Uveitis Centre and ophthalmologists in private practice
  • autoimmune diseases with and without joint involvement (including connective tissue diseases, vasculitis and dermatomyositis)
  • periodic fever syndromes such as PFAPA, FMF, TRAPS etc.
  • chronic non-bacterial osteomyelitis (bone marrow inflammation)

Good interdisciplinary cooperation with medical colleagues (ophthalmologists, orthopaedic surgeons, orthodontists, psychologists), physiotherapists and occupational therapists is important to allow children and adolescents with rheumatic diseases to develop in line with their age.
Thanks to the close cooperation within our team, we can arrange an individual and successful transition for adolescents from paediatric to adult rheumatology.
